Times Talk: Defying Dictators: What WWII Resistance Can Teach Us About Defending Democracy
Description
A Conversation with FHSU students moderated by Dr. Amber N. Nickell & Professor Hollie Marquess. This presentation features Fort Hays State University students who participated in the History Department’s 16-week course, WWII Resistance. As part of the course, students traveled to Germany & France to study & experience the history of resistance movements firsthand. Their journey included visits to significant sites such as Dachau, Normandy, & the White Rose memorial in Munich. Through these experiences, students explored a wide range of efforts to defend freedom & human dignity, from armed struggle & underground networks to artistic expression & everyday acts of moral courage. In this talk, they will share their reflections on how ordinary people resisted authoritarianism & upheld democratic values in times of crisis. The presentation will highlight how the lessons of the past can inspire renewed commitment to democracy & civic responsibility today. https://www.visithays.com/calendar.aspx?EID=22035
