Executive Director of The Bricks in Downtown Hays
JOB SUMMARY:
The Executive Director leads The Bricks in Downtown Hays in advancing its mission to advance the economic and cultural vibrancy of Downtown Hays. This dynamic role provides strategic and operational leadership, fosters public and private partnerships, and ensures effective program delivery. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and works collaboratively with community stakeholders to drive sustainable growth and revitalization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership:
- Partner with the Board to develop and implement strategic plans.
- Translate goals into actionable initiatives, allocating resources and aligning teams accordingly.
- Lead the creation and delivery of programs, events, and organizational plans.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and representative at public forums and events.
Operational Management:
- Oversee daily operations, including event planning, administrative tasks, and goal tracking.
- Foster a collaborative, communicative team environment.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and recordkeeping requirements.
Community Engagement & Advocacy:
- Represent The Bricks as a proactive advocate and community connector.
- Cultivate relationships with public officials, businesses, property owners, and donors.
- Promote participation from board members, volunteers, and the broader community.
- Lead communication efforts to increase public engagement and organizational visibility.
Board Collaboration & Governance:
- Serve as the primary liaison to the Board, supporting effective communication and informed decision-making.
- Coordinate board and subcommittee meetings, including planning, materials, and follow-up.
- Provide regular progress updates on strategic goals and initiatives.
Financial Oversight:
- Develop and manage the annual budget and financial practices.
- Monitor funding needs and pursue grants, sponsorships, and other revenue opportunities.
- Ensure financial transparency and execute necessary legal and financial documents.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & REPORTING:
The Executive Director operates independently in a collaborative, community-centered environment and reports directly to the Board of Directors. Some evening and weekend work is required for meetings and events. Performance is reviewed during monthly board meetings and through board committee engagement.

- Technologically proficient (e.g., Microsoft Office, social media, project tools)
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, public administration, communications, or related fields; or equivalent experience.
- Experience in nonprofit, economic, or downtown development preferred
- Proven experience in planning, stakeholder engagement, and budget oversight
- Background in event planning, grant writing, or project management preferred
- Familiarity with relevant local, state, and federal regulations is a plus

Compensation Type: Salary
Compensation Range: $55k+ (commensurate with experience)
