HAYS, Kan. - The Bricks in Downtown Hays will celebrate Earth Day with Sticks on The Bricks on Wednesday, April 22 at the Pavilion, in partnership with K-State Extension and Research and the Fort Hays State University Percussion Department.

The evening will begin with a free, public hands-on activity from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., where participants can create their own instruments using recycled materials. Attendees will make tin can drums and shakers, offering a fun and creative way to explore reuse while celebrating Earth Day.

At 7:00 p.m., the Fort Hays State University Percussion Ensemble will present a live performance. The ensemble includes both music majors and non-majors who come together to explore their musical potential through traditional concert works and open-form performances. The event will conclude with a special piece featuring audience participation, giving attendees the chance to join the university students in a lively group performance using the instruments they created earlier in the evening.

“Sticks on The Bricks is a fun way to bring people together through creativity, music, and sustainability,” said Lee Ann June, Executive Director of The Bricks in Downtown Hays. “We are excited to partner with K-State Extension and Research and FHSU to offer an Earth Day event that is interactive, educational, and full of energy.”

Sticks on The Bricks is open to the public and designed for all ages. The event invites the community to celebrate the planet by reusing materials, making music, and enjoying a unique downtown experience. Bring your own chair to sit back and enjoy the performance.
